we love coffee

In the former tollhouse next to the Mozartsteg is Salzburg’s smallest coffeehouse. The homemade cakes and wide selection of coffees are only available “to go”.

Highest quality in a really small space

“We love coffee” might not boast an inside coffee room, but when it comes to what they offer and their service, this small coffeehouse definitely keeps up with the big boys. The coffee is “direct trade” sourced and is prepared true to barista standards. The cookies, tartes and brownies are homemade and, if you do manage to grab one of the few seats in front of the small building, you will quickly understand why this location is so special.

The history of the small tollhouse

The history of this little house dates back to 1903. At that time, a restaurateur and operator of a coffeehouse on the right side of the Salzach decided he wanted to attract more people from the Old City to his café. To that end, the Mozartsteg bridge was constructed. In order to cross, you had to pay a small fee at the tollhouse. Ownership of the bridge transferred to the city in 1920 and pedestrians have been able to use it for free since 1921.
