Irma Toledo. Painting as freedom in becoming

Irma Rafaela Toledo fulfilled her wish to work as a painter only after the Second World War. Coming from a Jewish merchant family, she hid in the mountains near Salzburg during the last two years of the war, which allowed her to survive.

The Museum of Modern Art Salzburg presents over 20 paintings, graphics, and prints by the Austrian artist for the first time in this exhibition. The showcase brings together works from its own collections as well as selected loans and features city views of Salzburg, landscape paintings, and still lifes, as well as works inspired by her intensive engagement with spirituality and religion.

Opening: October 20, 2026, 7 p.m.
