St. Rupert's Day Fair
September 23 - 27, 2026
Every year around September 24, the Rupertikirtag is held in honor of St. Rupert around Salzburg Cathedral. Historical rides, market stalls with regional delicacies, and a beer tent are among the highlights of this traditional church fair.
The Rupertikirtag is celebrated in the tradition of a cathedral consecration festival. For over 40 years, the squares around Salzburg Cathedral transform into a stage for lively customs, folk and brass music, typical delicacies, and historic rides such as ghost trains and merry-go-rounds for five days around the feast day of Saint Rupert. It is best to visit the Rupertikirtag in lederhosen and dirndl.
Rupert was a bishop to whom the Roman settlement of Juvavum (now: Salzburg) was granted, and he laid the foundation for present-day Salzburg in 696 with the founding of the Archabbey of St. Peter. He is the patron saint of Salzburg and is celebrated on September 24.
