Summer Scene: Rosana Ribeiro – Selva Break the Dam
Experience "Break The Dam" – a captivating dance evening by Rosana Ribeiro. Five dancers explore physical liberation in a post-apocalyptic landscape. An energetic visual experience against ecological stagnation!
The Portuguese-Brazilian choreographer Rosana Ribeiro, based in Salzburg, presents her new production as part of the Sommerszene festival. The piece explores what is needed to overcome physical and ecological paralysis—inspired by the question of what it takes to 'let the ground wash away' and break free from dark, coal-like landscapes. Ribeiro’s choreography combines micro-movements with wave-like energies that dissolve into a collective release. From a scene of rigidity and repetition, fluid transformations emerge: suppressed forces are unleashed until the group expands in swirling motions. Supported by an international team of dancers, dramaturgs, and designers for sound, stage, and lighting, the piece reflects contemporary themes such as resilience and change. An intense visual experience that makes the connection between body and environment tangible.
