The Sound of Music
A touching musical about family, courage, and music in Salzburg. Experience the story of Maria and the von Trapp family in a captivating production full of emotion and timeless melodies.
“The Sound of Music” returns to its historic setting in Salzburg – a heartfelt musical that tells the touching story of the Trapp family. The young novice Maria is sent as a governess to the seven children of the widowed Captain von Trapp. Amidst the mountains, singing, and a budding romance, the family is confronted with the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany and must make an impossible decision.
With timeless melodies like “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and “My Favorite Things,” the piece celebrates togetherness, courage, and the power of music. The new production by the Salzburg Landestheater is based on a fresh translation by Heiko Wohlgemuth and Kevin Schroeder and focuses on a non-kitsch, politically sensitive portrayal. Directed by Andreas Gergen and with musical direction by Wolfgang Götz, this family saga becomes a moving musical experience that blends history and entertainment.
