Hofbräu Kaltenhausen - exquisite “Speciality Beer Manufactory”
As Salzburg’s oldest brewery, since 1475 the Hofbräu in Kaltenhausen has combined traditional beer recipes with ingenious creativity and innovating brewing artistry. Specialty beers very much represent the heart & soul of the brewery.
This restaurant is subjected to a demanding evaluation process and is honoured as "Preferred Salzburg Beer Culture Establishment".
In the quiet community of Kaltenhausen near Hallein, since its founding back in 1475 the Hofbräu has relied upon a combination of traditional brewing processes and creative spirit. Here, centuries-old recipes are refined to create veritable beer treasures with a sense of zeitgeist, enriching Salzburg’s beer culture tremendously.
An extraordinary world of pure enjoyment
A highlight of Hofbräu Kaltenhausen is its specialty-beer plant, which went into production in 2011. The events program at the brewery includes guided tours, training seminars leading to award of the “Beer Sommelier” certificate, tastings at the Braugasthof, as well as presentations that address future developments in beer.
In the Cooperage Museum at Hofbräu Kaltenhausen, visitors can experience the ages-old craftsmanship of the barrel maker firsthand. In the brewery’s own former workshop, which remained in operation until the 1970s, the history of barrel making is documented. On display here are cooperage equipment, calipers, carving tools, beer barrels, a hoop-bending machine, furnace, guild plates and a guild chest from the year 1609, and more. In a short film, a master cooper demonstrates the traditional barrel-making technique.
A visit to the Cooperage Museum is included in guided tours of Spezialitäten-Manufaktur Hofbräu Kaltenhausen.
