Sound of Music Salzburg
In mid-2026, the seasonal museum "Sound of Music Salzburg" will be established in direct proximity to the "Sound of Music" pavilion in Hellbrunn.
A unique exhibition project is being created on the historic grounds of Schloss Hellbrunn: The ensemble of the coach house, gamekeeper's house, and animal keeper's house at the entrance to the park is being renovated and adapted as an additional location of the Salzburg Museum by summer 2026. Under the title "Sound of Music Salzburg," not only will the Hollywood film "The Sound of Music" be addressed as a cultural and tourist phenomenon, but also the historical reality of the von Trapp family will be reflected. The famous neighboring pavilion, the original filming location and movie set, will crown the future museum tour.
"Sound of Music Salzburg" invites visitors to engage with "The Sound of Music" through an innovative multimedia presentation and communication concept. It covers both the foundations, including the history of the von Trapp family, the musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, as well as the historical context, and the development and success story of the Hollywood film and its ongoing global impact. The exhibition guides visitors through the genesis of the American film, contrasting it with the current local reception and representation, while providing information about the authentic living reality of the "Trapp family Singers." This offers much new insight for both the international sing-along fan community and the local audience.
