“Trio making music” by Max Rieder

In front of Salzburg Congress and amidst Kurgarten in Mirabell Gardens, three soft sculptures have been doing music since 1957.

Tribute to the city of music

This sculpture by Salzburg painter and sculptor Max Rieder stands between Schloss Mirabell and the Kongresshaus. It consists of a girl with a triangle (left), a boy on the recorder (center) and a girl with a pan flute (right). These naked bronze figures stand on a plinth made of conglomerate rock and are not quite life-size. The sculpture has been signed by the artist “Rieder 1957”.

The artist

Born in Salzburg, Rieder adopted a classical approach to sculpture. He was first a student and then teacher at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts.
