Mozart Week 2026 -Letters & Music (in English)

Mozart: lux æterna is the theme of this anniversary Mozart week, celebrating the eternal light of Mozart, explains Rolando Villazón, director of the Mozart week. 2026 is a year with not one but two major Mozart anniversaries: It is the celebration of Mozart's 270th birthday and 70 years since the world's most significant Mozart festival was established in 1956.

'What pleases me most of all is the silent applause!'

The program takes an amusing stroll through Mozart's last year of life with letters, documents, and music, this time featuring the unique combination of bassoon and singing voice, interacting with Mozart's own fortepiano. In addition to Mozart's works, seldom-played compositions from his Viennese environment will also be heard.
