Special Tours to the Carillon During Holy Week
Before the bells "fly to Rome" during Holy Week and fall silent until Sunday morning, there are special tours on the days leading up to it. It's a walk up 190 steps to the tower. At the top, we will jointly examine the mechanics of the carillon and enjoy (weather permitting) a unique panoramic view of the city of Salzburg.
Under the helmet of the tower on the west side of the New Residence, you will find the Salzburg carillon.
Since 1704, the carillon has been playing in Salzburg. Currently, it plays about 40 musical pieces, of which 16 are attributed to Johann Michael Haydn. The musical pieces by father and son Mozart are arrangements from the 19th century.
- Please note: The carillon is only accessible by foot via 190 steps!
