Parking in Salzburg
Due to the geography of the city and the steadily growing amount of traffic, Salzburg City only has a limited amount of parking available. All parking areas in downtown Salzburg are short-term parking zones.
Short-Term Parking Zones
Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., parking fees are charged
Saturday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., free parking – however, a parking disc is required
Maximum Parking Time: 3 hours
The short-term parking zones in Salzburg are indicated by signs located at the entrance and exit to all parking areas. The blue street markings, which are not required by law, are merely intended to help you find possible parking spaces.
You can also pay your parking fees to the City of Salzburg using your mobile phone. Aside from the convenience, it also has the additional advantage of being precise to the exact minute. Depending on your mobile carrier, minimal charges will apply for use of this service. Parking fees for the short-term parking zones in question are unaffected. Parking tickets can also be paid for using the coin machines located nearby.
Tip: Park Cheaper
If you park in the Mönchsberg Garage (garages A and B) and then go into downtown Salzburg, be sure to have your ticket “validated”. If you do, you will only pay € 4.00 for up to 4 hours or just € 6.00 for up to 8 hours. Many businesses and restaurants in the Old City will be happy to validate your parking ticket. You will be able to recognize them by the orange parking sticker which they display. In the parking garage operated by the Brothers of Mercy (“Barmherzige Brüder”), you can also take advantage of a discounted € 3.00 “Gastro Ticket” which is available after 4 p.m.
The Linzer Gasse parking garage offers discounts to hotel guests as well as customers of shops and restaurants on the right side of the Old City. Simply ask the store owner about the -10% card for the Linzer Gasse garage. When you are ready to pay at the ticket machine, first insert your parking ticket, then the discount ticket, in order to receive your 10% discount.
